Owens earns SCAC Co-Player-of-the-Week after dominating break

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior Jordan Owens capped off a sensational winter break with by being awarded the SCAC Player-of-the-Week for week six, sharing the honor with Texas Lutheran's Karisa Cantu. 

Owens, a junior forward from Richardson, Texas, was a monster over the break, averaging 21.5 points per game while shooting 51% from the floor (29-56) and 42% form three point range (6-14), 78% (22-28) from the free throw line. She also averaged 6.8 rebounds per game and had five steals. 

Over the break, Owens eclipsed the 1000 point mark for her career and was the leading scorer in three of the four games with 25 points against Baruch, 23 points against Occidental and 18 against Texas Wesleyan. 

Owens was a D3hoops.com Classic All-Tournament Team selection and was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for her play in Las Vegas. 

KARISA CANTU OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior guard from San Antonio, Texas, scored a season-high 22 points in the home loss to NAIA school St. Ambrose (Iowa), added 20 points in a road win over NAIA school Northwood, and posted a triple-double in TLU's SCAC-opening win over Schreiner. 

In the victory over the Mountaineers, Cantu scored 13 points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds. 

Southwestern sits at 4-8 on the season and 1-0 in the SCAC. They return to conference play on Friday, hosting Schreiner at 8 p.m.
