Offense cools as Pirates open conference play

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Southwestern was held to 18 points below their average as they dropped their conference opener to Trinity 81-55 on Wednesday night. 

SU trailed early and faced a 14 point deficit at halftime after shooting only 26.3% from the floor while Trinity was nearly 50% from the field in the half.

The Pirates' offensive woes improved after halftime, but so did the Tigers' as Trinity pushed their lead to almost 30 points. Trinity shot 56% from the floor in the second half to easily hold off Southwestern's final push. SU did post an impressive 21 offensive rebounds in the loss and outrebound TU 46-41 on the evening. 

Annie Bourne continued her dominance with 16 points and 13 rebounds, posting her third consecutive double-double. Chelsea Leeder added in 13 points and Audrey Garcia 11. TU's Murphy Burns led all scorers with 22 points. 

The loss drops Southwestern to 2-5 on the year and 0-1 in the SCAC while Trinity improves to 7-1 overall, 1-0 in the conference. SU returns home for their next game, facing former SCAC opponent Rhodes on December 14th at 5 p.m.
