Trinity Tops Southwestern in SCAC Final

Trinity took advantage of a cold shooting first half for Southwestern and rolled it into a 77-65 win to become SCAC Women's Basketball Champions on Sunday afternoon. 

The Pirates hit 28.6 percent from the field on 10-35 shooting and were 2-8 from behind the arc to start off the game.  The Tigers capitalized on the offensive woes for the Bucs' and converted it into a 36-23 lead at halftime.

Southwestern fell behind by as much as seventeen points after TU's Libby Kruse made a layup with just over fourteen minutes left to play in the game.  The Pirates would show their trademark fight and battle back with a 14-3 scoring run.  The run included several made free throws from Madison Eschle, three pointers from Jordan Owens and Valerie Logan, and culminated with a jumper from Owens to close the gap to 65-62 with 2:27 on the clock.

Trinity followed with a 9-0 run before Audrey Garcia answered with a three pointer with less than a minute to play.  The Tigers would hold on and secure the 77-65 victory.

The Pirates were led by Jordan Owens and Annie Bourne as they both had double-doubles and collected 13 rebounds each.  Owens finished with 14 points, while Bourne had 13 for the Pirates.  TU's Hannah Coley led all scorers with 20 points and Murphy Burns had a double-double, contributing 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pirates reached the tournament final for the first time in school history and finished the year with an overall record of 19-8.
