Leeder Hits 1000 Career Points in Huge Pirate Win

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Junior forward Chelsea Leeder posted her 1000th career point on Friday night as Southwestern demolished Colorado College 88-58.

Southwestern's defense came out strong, using an extremely effective press to force nine Tiger turnovers in the first seven and a half to build the lead to, 16, 24-8.

Despite the large lead the Pirates didn't let up one bit as they built their lead to 30, 40-10, with seven minutes remaining in the half with a balanced offensive attack. When all was said and done the Pirates took a 32 point lead, 54-22, into the break. Leeder and Audrey Garcia led the charge with 11 points for Southwestern while Kaitlyn Rossa added in 10 off the bench.

Colorado College came out much stronger in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Pirates maintained a 30 point lead throughout the majority of the frame en route to an 88-58 win.

Led by Jordan Owens' 17 points, Southwestern shot 51.6% from the field and 47.4% from three point range for the game. Owens and Annie Bourne tied for a team high seven rebounds as the Pirates out-rebounded the Tigers 44-35. SU also forced three more turnovers while holding CC to 33.3% from the field and 18.2% from long range.

Chelsea Leeder recorded 13 points in the win to eclipse the 1000 point mark for her career.

Southwestern improves to 9-4 on the year and 3-0 in the SCAC while Colorado College falls to 2-11 overall, 2-1 in conference play.

The Pirates remain at home and in SCAC action on Saturday as they face the University of Dallas at 6 pm.
