Hot Shooting Pirates Take Down Webster

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - While shooting nearly 50% from the field and three point, the Southwestern women's basketball team easily took down Webster University 85-61 to close their holiday tournament play.

Jordan Owens led the way with 28 points on the afternoon, shooting 12-22 from the floor and 3-4 from three point range. She was also the leading rebounder for Southwestern, grabbing nine boards during the contest.

Owens kick-started things for SU, scoring six of the Pirates' first eight points. Despite the strong start Southwestern went into the locker room tied 31-31 after a last second shot by WU's Gwen Williams.

Three three-pointers and a jumper opened the second half and gave SU a more comfortable nine point lead, 42-33, three minutes into the final frame. The Pirates continued to watch their lead balloon throughout the remainder of the half until arriving at the 85-61 final.

Joining Owens in double-digits was Annie Bourne and Audrey Garcia who both scored 15 points and Chelsea Leeder with 11. WU's Maggie Zehner scored 19 points to lead Webster.

Southwestern improves to 8-4 on the year while Webster falls to 4-7. The Pirates come home to return to SCAC conference action on January 4th, facing Colorado College at 6 p.m.
