Pirates Grace the Pages of National Statistical Leaders

GEORGETOWN, Texas - As the first half of the season draws to a close the Southwestern women's basketball team continues to build on their strengths as they dive into the second half of the season, SCAC action, beginning this Friday. Led by sophomore Chelsea Leeder, the Pirates have made a splash in the national statistics.

Leeder is a quiet leader on the court but makes a big impact on the scoreboard with her perimeter game that, at times, mystifies her opponents. Leeder is currently tied for 7th in the nation in made three-point field goals, averaging 3.2 per game. She is hot on the heels of the national leader, Amber Satterfield from Piedmont, who averages 3.8 per game.

Not only does she consistently drain the three, she does so with precision with a 41.6 three-point percentage, 32nd in the nation.

The Pirates as a whole are making their mark in the national statistics. They are tied for 45th in three-point field goals per game (6.3) and 39th in assists per game (15.7).

Though Southwestern sits at 6-7 on the year their talent is undeniable. Thier difficult schedule has prepared them for tough SCAC action, where they are currently second in the West with a 3-1 record. SU returns to conference play this weekend after their bye week, facing Birmingham Southern on Friday night and Oglethorpe on Saturday. Both games are slated to begin at 6pm in the Robertson Center.
