Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game in Overtime

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern out-scored Texas Wesleyan by seven points in the second half to push the game into overtime, but couldn't get a shot to fall in overtime as they fell to a very talented TWU 84-77.

The Pirates led through the opening 10 minutes of the game before the Rams tied the count 19-19 and rode the lead into the break 38-31.

As the second half got underway Southwestern continued to fight, battling back from 12 down to tie the game for the fifth time, 71-71, with 1:37 left. Texas Wesleyan hit a jumper on the next possession to regain the lead but after trading free throws Anna Fareed's layup with seconds left pushed the game into overtime, 75-75.

In the extra frame, Southwestern wasn't able to get the basket they needed as TWU pulled ahead to steal the game.

SU shot a respectable 46% from the field and 36.8% from three point range while TWU shot 40% from the floor and 35% from three point range. Four Pirates were in double digits with Annie Bourne (pictured) leading the way with 17 points and a team high 14 rebounds. Fareed and Chelsea Leeder added in 15 points. Jordan Owens contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Southwestern returns home for another SCAC contest as they face Austin College on December 16th at 5pm.
