Castaneda leads Southwestern in first race of 2016 season

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern men's cross country team kicked off the 2016 season on Thursday with the Pirate Opener at San Gabriel Park.

Ulises Castaneda led Southwestern with a ninth-place finish in the 5k race. Castaneda crossed the line with a time of 18:33.

Austin Morrison turned in a time of 18:37, which was good for 10th place overall.

John Hattan also competed for the Pirates and finished in 14th place.

Southwestern will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational.
