Men take fourth at Alamo City Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Headed up by Alex Medrano's 11th place finish overall, the Southwestern men's cross country team had a strong showing at the Alamo City Classic, finishing fourth. 

Medrano was the highest Division III finisher at the race, finishing in a time of 29:04.92. UT Brownsville's David Guillen won the event in 26:04.82. Medrano's time was nearly 20 seconds faster than his closest DIII competitor, Zach Zimdars of Trinity. 

New to the cross country course but making a big impact is senior, Joe Sponsel. Sponsel was the second highest finisher for SU with a time of 29:54.67 and finished in 17th place with just four DIII competitors in front of him including teammate Medrano.

Phillip Davis placed 27th in a time of 30:55.82, Charlie Hutchison in 35th wtih a time of 32:20.55 and Alec Bergerson close behind in 36th, finishing in 32:23.47. 

Rounding out the Pirate crew were Duncan Bradley (33:09.50), Alex Riggs (34:37.61), and Kyle Bauernschmitt (34:57.37).

Southwestern has one more race before the SCAC Championships, competing at the Concordia Invitational in Cedar Park, Texas on October 19th.
