SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's cross country fought to place two individuals in the top 10 Saturday at the Texas Lutheran Invitational, as the Pirates finished third as a team.

The Pirates got an outstanding effort from Alex Medrano, who followed up his runner-up performance from last week with a seventh place finish on Saturday. Medrano finished with a time of 17:58.29 as teammate Joe Sponsel finished close behind in ninth.

Sponsel continues to impress in his first season on the Pirate cross country team, as he crossed the finish line with a time of 18:13.81.

Charlie Hutchinson and Philip Davis both finished in the top 15 while Kyle Bauernschmitt and Alec Bergerson earned top 20 finishes as they checked in at 18th and 19th respectively.

Southwestern cross country takes a week off before returning to action Sept. 20 at the Ricardo Romo Classic in San Antonio and hosted by UTSA.
