GEORGETOWN – The Southwestern University men's cross country team bested cross-town rival Concordia at Friday evening at the Southwestern Dual Opener at San Gabriel Park.

The Pirates bested the Tornados as a team however it was Southwestern posting five individuals in the top 10.

Sophomore Alex Medrano led the Pirates with a runner-up finish as he posted a time of 21:39.31. Charlie Hutchinson covered the 6000-meter course in a time of 22:13.52 to finish fourth, while teammate Joe Sponsel finished fifth with a time of 23:10.40 in his first cross country action.

Phillip Davis and Kyle Baurnschmitt finished sixth and ninth respectively rounding out the five top 10 finishes for the Pirates.

Southwestern returns to action next Saturday at the Texas Lutheran Invitational in Seguin.
