PIRATE MEN FINISH 10TH OUT OF 24 TEAMS AT SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGIONAL

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Southwestern University men's cross country team had a fantastic showing at the DIII South/Southeast Regional held at Guilford College. Senior Dan Rudd (pictured) led the way for the Pirates, coming in 37th place in a time of 28:50.

Despite the warm, humid weather and muddy racing conditions that have seemed to follow the Pirates all season the men tied their best finish ever at the Regional meet, 10th place, which was also accomplished in 2004 and 2005.

Rudd’s 37th place finish was highest for the Pirates while sophomore Zach Freeland came in 47th overall in just over 29 minutes. Senior Josh Gideon and Matthew Broussard were strong in their final race with Gideon taking 65th place in a time of 29:40 while Broussard finished in 31:05 for 110th place.

First-year Thomas Bobbitt closed out his first collegiate season with a 76th place finish in a time of 30:13. Junior Allen Smith was close behind, finishing in 30:19 for 82nd place while first-year Sam Martinez placed 141st in a time of 32:24.

The Regionals race marked the end of the Pirates season.
