CONYERS, Ga. – The Pirate men’s cross country team had an impressive showing in a difficult situation at the SCAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Oglethorpe University. The team ended in sixth place overall with 166 points.

Junior Dan Rudd led the way for Southwestern, taking first for the team and 22nd overall finishing in a personal best time of 26:05.90. First-year Thomas Bobbitt came in second place and 26th overall with a time of 26:27.10 which was also a personal best time.

Sophomore Zach Freeland posted a personal best time of 26:43.00 to finish third for Southwestern and 34th overall while senior Josh Gideon took 40th overall in a personal best time of 27:05.80.

Juniors Allen Smith and Sebastian Winkler come in 53rd and 59th, respectively, in times of 27:41.90 and 27:57.20 which was a personal best time for both runners.

Senior Matthew Broussard took 63rd in a personal best time of 28:13.50 while David Thomas Branch Pruit rounded out the Pirate runners in a season best time of 31:49.30 for 87th place.

“Finishing without our #2 runner added pressure, but the men’s team stepped up to the plate and filled in the gap running personal best times,” stated Coach Francie Larrieu Smith.

There has been discussion as to the accuracy of the distance of the men’s course and it will be re-measured on Monday to determine actual times.

The Pirates will participate in the Jameson 5K as a part of Southwestern’s Homecoming festivities on November 6th before heading to the South/Southeast Regional Championships in Greensboro, NC on November 14th.
