CONYERS, Ga. – The Pirate men’s cross country team
had an impressive showing in a difficult situation at the SCAC
Cross Country Championships hosted by Oglethorpe University. The
team ended in sixth place overall with 166 points.
Junior Dan Rudd led the way for Southwestern, taking first for the
team and 22nd overall finishing in a personal best time of
26:05.90. First-year Thomas Bobbitt came in second place and 26th
overall with a time of 26:27.10 which was also a personal best
time.
Sophomore Zach Freeland posted a personal best time of 26:43.00 to
finish third for Southwestern and 34th overall while senior Josh
Gideon took 40th overall in a personal best time of 27:05.80.
Juniors Allen Smith and Sebastian Winkler come in 53rd and 59th,
respectively, in times of 27:41.90 and 27:57.20 which was a
personal best time for both runners.
Senior Matthew Broussard took 63rd in a personal best time of
28:13.50 while David Thomas Branch Pruit rounded out the Pirate
runners in a season best time of 31:49.30 for 87th place.
“Finishing without our #2 runner added pressure, but the
men’s team stepped up to the plate and filled in the gap
running personal best times,” stated Coach Francie Larrieu
Smith.
There has been discussion as to the accuracy of the distance of the
men’s course and it will be re-measured on Monday to
determine actual times.
The Pirates will participate in the Jameson 5K as a part of
Southwestern’s Homecoming festivities on November 6th before
heading to the South/Southeast Regional Championships in
Greensboro, NC on November 14th.
