PIRATES AGAIN FINISH IN TOP TWO

LIVE OAK, Texas – Muddy, hard to run in conditions nor other teams to keep the Southwestern men’s cross country team from taking another second place finish this fall. The Pirates finished with 55 points at the University of Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational.

Senior Dan Rudd once again led the way for SU, coming in third place overall with a time of 27:35. Junior Allen Smith was the second finisher for Southwestern, ending in a personal best time of 27:51 for ninth place.

First-year Thomas Bobbitt also recorded a personal best time during the day, finishing in 28:16 for 12th place while senior Josh Gideon recorded a season best time, running in 28:55 to end in 14th place.

Also running for the Pirates were first-year Sam Martinez who finished in the top 20 (17th place) in a time of 29:17. Sophomore Zach Freeland finished in 29:48 for 28th place, senior Matthew Broussard ran in a time of 30:20 and junior Sam Marsh came in at 33:38.

The Pirates will have one last meet before heading to the SCAC Championships in three weeks. SU will head to Clinton, Miss. for the Mississippi College Cross Country Invitational held on October 17th.
