SOLID TEAM EFFORT LEADS MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TO SECOND PLACE FINISH

In just their second race of the season the SU men’s cross country team continues to look impressive early in the season. The Pirates took second place out of six teams at the University of Texas at Tyler Invitational and were just seven points behind the first place squad.

First-year Thomas Bobbitt led the way for Southwestern coming in sixth place overall with a time of 28:20. He was just 1:41 off the lead time of Northwood’s Alfred Kite. Fellow first-year Sam Martinez was hot on Bobbitt’s heals coming in just one second later to take seventh place at 28:21. Sophomore Zach Freeland finished in 11th with a time of 28:49 while juniors Dan Rudd and Allen Smith came in 13th and 14th place respectively at 29:11 and 29:31 to round out the Pirates in the top 15.

Four additional Pirates, Matt Broussard (pictured), Addison English, Sebastian Winkler and Josh Gideon finished in 18th, 20th, 21st and 25th respectively to give the Pirates the team boost up to second place overall.

Also running for the Pirates were Sam Marsh (42nd – 34:35), David Pruitt (43rd – 35:00), Brady Kent (44th – 35:42) and Brian Schaefer (48th – 37:59).
