Track & Field Finish First in Men's High Jump

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University track and field team came out on top in the men's high jump as Carter Klepper took first place at the Trinity Invitational late Friday evening.  

Klepper, who is a freshman from Waco, Texas, showcased his first appearance on the track and excelled above the rest marking at 1.92 meters. Klepper also placed eighth in triple jump landing at 11.62 meters. Elijah Timms also competed in the men's high jump and placed in a three-way tie for fourth, marking at 1.77 meters.

For the running events, Robert Robuck placed sixth in the men's 400-meter race finishing in 51.56 seconds. Keith Rupe was the only men's hurdle competitor for the Pirates and finished 18th with a time of 19.55 in the 110-meter hurdles.

In the men's 5000-meter race Noah Dennis finished seventh with a time of 16:13.26 with Nathan Botros close behind finishing in eighth with a time of 16:28.03. C.P. Shaulis also competed in the men's 5000-meter and finished 11th with a time of 16:35.17 followed by Fred Banuelos who finished 22nd with a time of 18:27.43. In the men's 1500 meter race, Eric Leland finished 18th with a time of 4:30.85 followed by Vincent Kim who placed 19th with a time of 4:35.78.

In the other field event's Mike May, Sean Longley and Joey Robinson (the big three) placed 17th, 18th and 19th in the men's hammer throw with May marking at 34.36 meters. Longley marked at 33.53 meters followed by Robinson marked at 33.01 meters. Robinson placed 13th overall in the men's shot marking at 12.09 meters while Longley placed 15th with a mark of 11.67 meters followed by May who placed 18th with a mark on 10.18 meters. In the men's discus Robinson placed 10th overall with a mark at 36.20 meters. Longley placed 14th with a mark of 35.23 meters in the discus with May finishing 16th with a mark of 31.88 meters.

May and Longley also competed in the men's javelin with May placing 18th while throwing 34.58 meters and Longley throwing 30.73 meters finishing 22nd.

Up next, men's track and field will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to compete in the South Alabama Invitational on Friday, March 20 at the University of South Alabama.
