Track and Field Open Spring Season at Trinity Open

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern Univesity track & field team opened up their 2018 season at the Trinity Open on the campus of Trinity Univeristy in San Antonio on Saturday morning.

Sophomore Joshua Im led the Pirates with a first place finish in the 10000 meter with a time of 34:22.00 while junior John Hattan was fourth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:49.86. 

The team of freshman Brian McCutcheon, freshman Devin Rosas, freshman Corbin Hutton, and Hattan placed fifth in the 4x400 relays with a time of 3:50.96.

In field events, Rosas won the long jump at 6.50m while freshman Brandon Jenkins was third in the high jump at 1.72m. Senior Tyler Adams was third in the shot put at 12.54m and sixth in the discus at 37.11m. Junior Sam Grubbs took home a fifth place finish in the shot put at 11.63m.

On the women's side, sophomore Jalynn Ashley was fifth in the 100m at 13.40 while freshman Sofia Garcia earned a fifth place finish in the 800m at 2:35.79. Ashley also added a fifth place finish in the long jump at 4.88m. Sophomore Hannah Bruce was sixth in the discus at 33.17m.

Southwestern will return to the track next weekend as they will compete at the Trinity Invite.
