Adams breaks pair of SU records at Trinity Invitational

Tyler Adams set a new Southwestern record in the hammer throw and discus on Friday at the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio.

Adams posted a ninth place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 34.50 meters and took 18th in the discus with a throw of 36.42 meters. Will Devine had a strong day in the shot put with an eighth place finish and throw of 12.48 meters.

Alex Medrano had a strong outing in the 5000, finishing in eighth place with a time of 16:55.19 while Paden Williams finished in 14th in the 800 in a time of 2:03.51. Abraham Devenport came in second in the 10K, finishing in a time of 38.01.74, just over two minutes behind the first place finisher.

On the women's side, Sarah Cowan had the highest individual Pirate finish, coming in sixth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:12.54. Zainab Oketokoun finished in 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:47.84 and Brianna Timourian came in 14th in the 1500 with a time of 5:12.85. First year Emily Boujemaa finished in a time of 20:50.35 in the 5000 meter run for 16th place.

Southwestern posted a third place finish in the 4x100 as Cowan, Colleen Nair, Timourian and Noorie Han teamed up for a time of 1:02.59. The 4x400 came in sixth in a time of 4:45.85.

Han also took seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 9.20 meters while Kimi Prevost brought home sixth in the shot put (9.66m). Anna Hugel posted a throw of 28.91 meters in the discus for tenth place and finished sixth in the javelin (26.31). Adighibe led SU in the hammer (34.65) for sixth place.

As a team, the men finished in seventh place and the women in sixth. The Pirates return to the track on April 4th to compete in the Hardin-Simmons Invitational in Abilene, Texas.
