Southwestern Shines at Hardin-Simmons Invitational
ABILENE, Texas – In their final meet prior to the SCAC Championships, the Southwestern Track & Field team posted top finishes in multiple events at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational.
 

Daniel Tuttle placed in the top 5 in 4 different events.  Tuttle finished 2nd in the 110m Hurdles (15.24s) and 3rd in the 400m Hurdles (58.17s).  He set season bests in the High Jump (1.73m) for 3rd and Triple Jump (12.40m) for 5th.

 

In the 3000 Meters, SU placed 3 runners in the top 10.  Sam Martinez took 2nd place with a season best time of 9:26.77.  The Pirates received personal best performances from both Phil Davis (10:20.60) for 8th and Joe Sponsel (10:21.32) for 9th place in the event.

 

Cody Taylor cleared 3.80m to take 3rd place in the pole vault.

 

Southwestern placed well in the throwing events.  In the Hammer Throw, Joey Quintero (28.59m) established a school record and took 8th while Owen Cassidy (23.13m) set a personal best and finished 9th.  Quintero (10.45m) and Cassidy (10.03m) also placed 7th and 8th in the Shot Put.  In the Discus, Quintero continued to score points for SU with a throw of 36.10m to earn 8th place.  Daniel Poole (47.68m) took 2nd and was the 1st overall collegiate athlete in the Javelin.  Quintero (37.51m) had a season best throw and placed 12th in the event. 

 

On the women's side, Emily Ammon finished 9th and ran a season best time of 18.94s in the 100m Hurdles.  She also placed 5th in the 400m Hurdles (1:17.63).  The Pirates were impressive in the 800m as Lily Duarte (2:21.53) and Kara Koinis (2:25.15 PB) finished 1st and 2nd with Meredith Donaldson taking 17th with a personal best 2:46.17.  In the 4x400m Relay, the team of Kara Koinis, Lilly Duarte, Emily Ammon, and Meredith Donaldson placed 3rd after crossing the finish line in 4:27.08.

 

Numerous bests were set in the women's throws.  In the Shot Put, Maya Adighibe (8.45m) and Molly Campbell (6.44m) both had personal bests and finished 13th and 17th, respectively.  Campbell finished 14th with a season best throw of 23.56m in the Discus.  Adighibe established a new SU record in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 18.30m and placed 13th.  The throw places her atop the SCAC Performance list.  Campbell (17.03m) finished 14th in the event and took over the #2 spot on the SCAC Performance list.  In the Javelin, Cara Sheffer (29.68m) threw a personal best and placed 3rd with a throw good enough for #2 on the SCAC Performance list.  Adighibe (20.62m) and Campbell (14.35m) also had personal bests and placed 10th and 13th in the event.

 

The team will compete in the SCAC Championships hosted by Trinity in San Antonio, Texas, beginning on April 26th.
