STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern men were the highest scoring men's DIII team, placing 8th of 13 total teams at the Tarleton Relays on Thursday.  The Women's 4x400 team was also the highest scoring DIII team with a 6th place overall finish.

The men's team received a strong performance by Daniel Poole in the javelin.  He was the only DIII male to score in the event, placing 3rd out of 16 competitors with a distance of 48.76 meters.  Junior Joe Sponsel ran well and was the highest scoring DIII male and placed 2nd in the steeple with a time of 11:08.45.

In addition to the 4x400 relay, Lilly Duarte also scored well on the women's side.  She was the only DIII woman to score in both the 1500 (4:51.93) and 800 (2:23.88), placing 2nd and 3rd in the respective events.

The Pirates continued to improve in other areas as Ryan Huiszoon ran a personal best of 11.84 in the 100 meter dash.  This was Ryan's first time to go under 12 in the 100.  Zach Anglin's performance in the 100 meters (11.78) and Alex Sheppard in the 110 Hurdles (16.81) were also good enough for season best times.
