Chas Mayer Named ITA Men's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year

Southwestern Assistant Men's Tennis Coach Chas Mayer was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Assistant Coach of the Year, the ITA announced today

Mayer is the first national winner in program history for this award. 

"Chas played an instrumental part in our record-breaking season this year. He ran a lot of practices for us, in particular on weekends, and brought a lot of new perspectives with fresh ideas to our practice courts," Southwestern Head Men's Tennis Coach Billy Porter says. "The work Chas did on match day on the court was second to none. Our players hold him in such high regard as he has connected with them in a way earning their trust which has contributed to their improvement."

The 2021 Spring season was historic for the Southwestern Men's Tennis team, and Coach Chas Mayer had a lot to do with it. The Pirates put together an outstanding season going 15-3 and finishing ranked No. 10 in the nation. The ranking was the highest in program history. Additionally, with Mayer's guidance, Southwestern qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. Finally, Mayer helped coach the Pirates' No. 1 singles player, Hunter Bajoit, to ITA Singles All-American honors.
