KERRVILLE, Texas — Southwestern's men's tennis team bounced back from a tough defeat against St. Mary's University in San Antonio to defeat Schreiner University 5-1.

After a seven-hour delay due to the wet weather, Southwestern went to work quickly. Alexander Joseph and Millan Fernandes shutout Max Schechter and Austin Cervantes 8-0 in No. 3 doubles, Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic defeated Luis Cabreja and Mario Gallinar 8-3 in No. 2 doubles.

The Pirates hit a slight bump in the road when Schreiner's Carson Kirk and Dennis Miller edged out Drew Shuvalov and Carlos Esteban Rodero 8-5 in the No. 1 spot.

"Schreiner played the match of their lives at No. 1, mankind Drew and Carlos struggle," head coach Billy Porter said. "We had multiple chances to break at 6-7 and played some poor points."

Southwestern won all three of the top singles matches in straight sets, with the match being called before No. 4, 5, and 6 singles could begin.

"Vesko played a strong match and was focused on all of the right things throughout. He did a great job of blocking out the crowd noise and remaining level-headed," Porter said. "Millan had a much better day today after a rough one yesterday."

Southwestern improves to 3-1 this season. The Pirates will host Texas Lutheran University on Friday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m.
