OJAI, Calif. – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team opened Day 1 of the Ojai Tennis Tournament with a strong showing.
No. 6 Alexis Dimanche defeated Chapman's Len Kamemoto 6-0, 6-1 to move to the round of 16, where he bested CLU's Ransom Braaten in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) to advance to the quarterfinals to face PRC's No. 1 Varun Shanker on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
Towards the bottom of the bracket, Dean Dulthummon was defeated by Caltech's James Wei 6-2, 7-6 in the opening round.
In doubles, Dimanche and Dulthummon combined to defeat Occidental's Ivan Derrick and David Zhang 8-4 to move to the quarterfinals, where they'll play Caltech's Ryan Dugan and Chad Leduff on Saturday at noon.
