Men's Tennis Falls in SCAC Championship Match

SHERMAN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team lost 5-0 to the defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) champion Trinity University Tigers in the SCAC Championship match.

Southwestern dropped were defeated 8-3 and 8-2 in the No. 1 and 2 matches in doubles but took the No. 3 match to the tiebreaker with Alexis Dimanche and Tashawn Treadwell falling 7-5 to Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles, losing the match 8-7.

"We shot ourselves in the foot on two occasions at No. 3 doubles," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "Getting broken at love serving for the match at 7-6 then having two volley errors up 5-4 up a mini break in the tie breaker really hurt us."

The Tigers clinched the match with victories in the No. 3 and 4 singles matches. Alexis Dimanche and Hunter Bajoit each dropped the first set in the No. 1 and 2 spots with Bajoit leading in the second set when the matches ended.

"Alexis played a strong match even though he lost the first set, I loved his energy all match long," Porter said. "Trinity was just a bit better than we were and we have to figure out how to beat them in doubles if we are ever going to covert one of these into a SCAC Championship."
