Pirates Shutout Against Trinity

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team suffered a shutout loss, falling to the Trinity University Tigers 9-0 on the road.

Southwestern got off to a sluggish start in doubles once again with new combinations failing to reignite the same chemistry it found in their original pairings in the previous match. Hunter Bajoit and Carlos Esteban Rodero lost 8-3 to Wilson Lambeth and Tilden Oliver in the No. 1 spot; Alexis Dimanche and Dean Dulthummond dropped the No. 2 spot 8-4; and Alexander Joseph and Vesko Lekovic fell 8-5 to Wilson Hamilton and Jace Akagi-Okuma in the No. 3 position.

"The same problems that have haunted us in doubles during our big matches unfortunately came to fruition once again," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "Even though we didn't convert any of them, I was very pleased with the fight out of all six singles players, especially after finding ourselves down 0-3 once again."

Dimanche and Bajoit showed fight in singles, with each winning the second set to take their opponent to a third in the top two spots against Lambeth and Hamilton. Rodero also went three sets with Tilden Oliver in the No. 5 spot while Joseph, Dulthummon, and Max Pearson all lost in straight sets.

"I told the guys after the match that I believe that this is the best thing that could've happened to us as we will now be forced to make some decisions which we will either decide to be status quo or improved the next time we face them," Porter said.
