Pirates Improve to 8-0 Ahead of California Trip

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team defeated Connecticut College 8-1 on Wednesday to remain undefeated at 8-0 before its trip to California this weekend.

Hunter Bajoit and Alexis Dimanche played in a tightly contested doubles match but pulled out the 8-6 victory while the pairing of Alexander Joseph and Dean Dulthummon won their match 8-1. Alonso Fernandez and Vesko Lekovic lost in the No. 3 match 8-3.

"We struggled again in doubles but Hunter and Alexis breaking late and then to serve it out was huge to give us the lead going into singles," Head Coach Billy Porter said.

Dimanche pulled off a 7-5 win in his first set over Connecticut College No. 1 Guillermo Garcia and followed with a tie-breaker in the second set, taking it 7-4 to win the set 7-6. Bajoit and Joseph won their matches comfortably in straight sets from the second and third singles spots but Dean Dulthummon surrendered a 5-1 lead in the second set before rallying to take the tie-breaker 7-3.

"Dean was up 5-1 in the second and for him to close it out after getting it to 5-5 was huge," Porter said. "And Hunter and Max were both very coachable throughout their matches making things easier for them to get the wins."

Max Pearson defeated Will Cannon in the five spot in three sets, winning the first 6-4, dropping the second 7-6, and recovering to take the third 10-4. Carlos Rodero won his in straight sets, winning both 6-4.
