Pirates Drop SCAC Championship Match to Trinity

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Southwestern University men's tennis team could not overcome a tough doubles portion of the SCAC Championship Match, falling to the Trinity University Tigers by the score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Air Force Academy.

Trintiy rolled to a pair of victories at one and two doubles to take an early 2-0 advantage. The duo of senior David Strong and sophomore Jeremy Wilson tried to salvage a point and give the Pirates some momentum into singles, but despite a great effort they fell just short, 9-7, at three doubles.

The Tigers would go on to win two and four singles to clinch the championship. Sophomore Alexis Dimanche was heading to a third set before the match went final at 6-2, 2-6 while senior Grant Gideon took set one at three singles, 7-6 (5).

In the end, the Pirate men just could not recover from a tough doubles battle.

Southwestern concludes another successful season under Billy Porter at 13-8. The Pirates will say goodbye to three program-defining seniors in Gideon, Strong, and AJ Garcia.
