Pirates Fight Off Colorado College to Advance to SCAC Championship Match

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The No. 1 seed Southwestern University men's tennis team were able to hold off a tough Colorado College squad, defeating the Tigers 5-3 in the SCAC Semfinals, to punch their ticket to the SCAC Championship Match tomorrow afternoon.

Despite dropping a set at one double, the Pirates responded with win at two and three doubles to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Dean Dulthummon and junior Alonso Fernandez picked an 8-5 win at two while senior David Strong and sophomore Jeremy Wilson took an 8-4 win at three.

It was quite the battle in singles with Colorado College taking three and four singles, but sophomore Alexis Dimanche winning 6-4, 6-4 at one singles while sophomore Dean Dulthummon picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at two singles.

Southwestern was strong in the final two matches as sophomore Jeremy Wilson clinched it with a 6-4, 6-4 win at five singles. Fernandez was well on his was at six singles, leading 6-3, 5-0 before Wilson finished it off.

The Pirates are now 13-7 and will make their fourth straight appearance in the SCAC Championship Match and will battle No. 2 seeded Trinity for the fourth time. The Pirates upset the Tigers just one week ago in Georgetown, 5-4, to earn the No. 1 seed.

The two teams are scheduled to face off at 9:30 AM at the Air Force Academy.
