Men's tennis opens season at Tyler Invite

TYLER, Texas - Southwestern men's tennis kicked off the 2017-18 season over the weekend, testing themselves early as they faced nationally-ranked opponents from various divisions at the Tyler Invite.

The Pirates competed against four top-10 junior colleges in #2 Tyler Junior College, #4 Seward, #9 Jacksonville and #10 Seminole, three NCAA Division II institutions including #23 Midwestern State and nationally-ranked NCAA Division III #23 UT Tyler.

Every player earned a win in either singles or doubles action over the weekend. Sophomore Jeremy Wilson went 2-1 to lead the way in singles play while Alex Baskerville and Dean Dulthummon went 2-1 in doubles play with their only loss to Midwestern State 9-8.

"Overall, I am pleased with our level and how we competed," said Coach Billy Porter. "It was great preparation for ITAs."

Southwestern heads to San Antonio on September 28th to kickoff the ITA Regional.
