AUSTIN, Texas – The Southwestern men's tennis team dropped its dual-match season opener to St. Edward's, 5-4, on Friday night.
The match was decided at No. 4 singles, where the Hilltoppers' Will Drumwright edged Dean Dulthummon in a tie-breaker (1-6, 7-6, 7-6).
St. Edward's, which is ranked 24th in the NCAA Division II ITA rankings, held a 4-1 advantage. However, the Pirates battled back to tie the match with singles wins by Alexis Dimanche, Nickoloz Snovely and Neik Khansari.
Southwestern will face Birmingham-Southern in its home opener Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.
