Rhodes rallies to clip Pirates on Tuesday, 6-3

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team was handed a 6-3 setback Tuesday against Rhodes at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.

The Pirates (6-4) led 2-1 after doubles competition, but the Lynx (4-3) captured five of six singles matchups to clinch the battle of former conference foes.

Southwestern took an early lead with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Nick Farmen and Rod Khansari teamed up at the third position for an 8-5 win over Sean Hogan and Sairam Gudiseva. Grant Gideon and David Strong then earned a 9-8 (8-6) triumph versus Albert Vacheron and Daniel Olivier at the third spot.

Rhodes picked up a win at No. 3 singles to pull even. The Lynx then added a point with a win at the fourth spot to take a 3-2 lead.

Farmen was victorious at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Eliot Blatt to tie up the match for the Pirates.

However, Rhodes won a three-set battle at the second spot to pull ahead for good. The visitors then added points from the final two positions to clinch the contest.

Southwestern will be back on the court on Thursday, as the squad plays a pair of matches. The Pirates will host Holy Names at 9 a.m. before taking on Concordia Texas at 3:30 p.m.
