Pirates fall in SCAC Championship match; set new SU season wins record

Southwestern battled on championship Sunday but fell to a tough Trinity squad 5-0.

Niko Snovely and Grant Gideon started doubles play strong, winning the first set just before the rain delay. After play resumed Snovely/Gideon dropped the first two sets but rallied back to tie the match 3-3 and extended to a 6-3 lead. Trinity rallied back to force a tie-breaker set where Trinity jumped out to an early lead that SU couldn't come back from, falling 8-7 (7-4).

Rod Khansari and Will Ellis fell behind early and could not gain enough ground, dropping their #2 doubles match 8-2 while Sam McCready and Nick Farmen fell 8-3 at #3.

Trinity rode that momentum into singles play and quickly won at #1 and #2 to seal the 5-0 win. Snovely fell 6-1, 6-2 at #1 as did Ayinde Hall at #2.

Southwestern closes the season with an impressive 17-3 overall record, setting a new SU record for wins in a season.
