Southwestern men drop heartbreaker

GEORGETOWN – The Southwestern University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker Saturday falling 5-4 to Schreiner University at the Henderson Tennis Courts.

The Pirates took an early 2-1 lead in doubles as Zayn Evans and Egan Cornachione picked up the first points at No. 3 doubles. Derek Grass and Niko Snovely teamed to win 8-5 at No. 1 doubles giving the Pirates the lead heading into singles.

Snovely continued his impressive season winning his seventh straight match at the No. 1 position. The Austin native claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win earning his 10th win of the season.

Cornachione claimed the final point for the Pirates at No. 2 singles as the bottom of the Mountaineer lineup claimed the final four points for the win.

The Pirates close out the regular season next Sunday when they host Colorado College. It will be the final match of the regular season before heading to San Antonio April 25-26 for the SCAC Championships.
