Southwestern drops heartbreaker at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker Sunday afternoon falling 5-4 at Austin College.

The Pirates fell to 5-3 on the year as Austin improved to 3-11. The Pirates fell behind in doubles action Sunday and despite a feverous rally from the top of the lineup the 'Roos held on for the one point win.

Niko Snovely cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position to move his singles record to 6-1 on the year. Snovely fell in doubles action with Derek Grass at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.

Sam McCready and Egan Cornachione also earned wins at the No.2  and No.3 positions before the bottom of the lineup dropped a pair of heartbreakers.

Grass fell at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in one of the closest matches before Edward Yu lost another heartbreaker at No. 6 singles. Yu fell to David Smith, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 as the 'Roos claimed the 5-4 win on Sunday.

The Pirates return to the court next Saturday with a pair of home matches against Texas Lutheran and Southwestern Christian. Action from the Marvin D. Henderson Tennis Courts is set to begin at 10 a.m.
