Men’s tennis cruises to 8-1 win over Sul Ross State

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team got back on the winning track Saturday as they breezed to an 8-1 win over Sul Ross State on the campus of Howard Payne.

Southwestern improved to 5-2 on the year while Sul Ross State fell to 1-10 overall in the non-conference match.

The Lobos pushed the Pirates in doubles as Niko Snovely and Derek Grass earned an 8-5 win at the No. 1 position and Sam McCready and Egan Cornachione found a way to pull out an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Edward Yu and Alvaro Rojas cursed at No. 3 doubles giving the Pirates the quick 3-0 lead.

The Pirates picked up quick wins at No. 1 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles to claim the win and a 6-0 lead in the match. The wins at the top of the line-up saw the Pirates improve to 6-1 in No. 1 singles with Snovely earning five of those wins.

Alex Wong was able to battle and pick up a win in the closest win for the Pirates taking his No. 5 singles match, 1-6, 7-6, 10-7 over Victor Garcia. Wong saw his record move to 1-1 on the year.

Southwestern continues its road swing as they travel to Sherman, Texas on Sunday to take on the 'Roos. The match is scheduled to start at noon.
