Pirates stay perfect with 5-4 win at ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas – It took a complete team effort Friday but the Southwestern University men's tennis earned a hard-fought 5-4 win over East Texas Baptist in non-conference action.

The Pirates took an early 2-1 lead in doubles action with win at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Egan Cornachione and Sam McCready battled to an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles while Alvaro Rojas and Edward Yu earned the 8-3 win.

Nickoloz Snovely and Yu helped the Pirates push their lead to 4-2 with wins at the top and bottom of the lineup. Snovely grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win for his third of the season while Yu was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at the No. 6 position.

Derek Grass gave the Pirates the fifth and decisive point with an intense 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position over Andrew Midkiff.

Southwestern continues its road swing Saturday with a 9 a.m. start at UT-Tyler.
