Pirates close fall season at USTA/ITA Regionals

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwestern University men's tennis picked up three wins over the weekend in singles action in both the "A Draw" and "B Draw"  at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championship.

The Pirates got a first round win from Nicolas Snovely (6-0, 10-5) over Austin College's Adam Dokos. Snovely was the lone winner in the "A Draw" for Southwestern.

A trio of Pirates advanced to the second round with wins in "B Draw" singles. Alvaro Rojas and Derek Grass both picked up wins before falling in second round action while Omeed Azmoudeh made a run to the quarterfinals in the "B Draw Consolation."

Azmoudeh fell in the quarterfinals to the consolation winner, Jason Ligon of Hardin-Simmons.

The USTA/ITA Regional was the Pirates only action of the fall under new Head Coach Billy Porter. Porter and Southwestern will open their NCAA season February 1 when they host NCAA-II Dallas Baptist.
