Three Pirates Earn SCAC All-Tournament Team Honors

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2013 SCAC Men's and Women's Tennis All-Tournament  teams this afternoon. Any players or doubles teams that went through the conference tournament undefeated were named to the team.

Andy Clarage, a senior form Bellaire, Texas, went 3-0 in #2 singles at the SCAC tournament this past weekend. Clarage opened the tournament with a tough battled, needing three stets to win 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 over Kasemodel of Colorado College. He then took down Bueche from Centenary while dropping just one set, 6-1, 6-0. Clarage ended the event by winning 6-1, 6-3 over Taylor of Austin College.  

Alec Bergerson, a junior from Cedar Hill, Texas, went 2-0 in #4 singles at the Championships. Bergerson opened with a 6-3, 6-3 sweep of Zach White of Colorado College. He then took on Ghaemmaghami of Centenary and was leading when his match was cut short since the Pirates had already clinched the win. Bergerson closed the tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Smith of Austin College.

Gabby Hunt, a first-year form McKinney, Texas, went 2-0 in #2 singles for the Pirate women to earn All-Tournament honors. Hunt opened again Patterson of Colorado College and had a tough match in the first set before dominating in the second to win 7-5, 6-0. She then took on Hornbeck of Trinity and was the only Pirate to win a set with a victory in a marathon match 7-6 (10-7), 3-6, 10-7.

The Southwestern women had their highest finish ever at the Championships, taking second place, while the men finished in third.
