Men’s Tennis Drops Home Matches

GEORGETOWN, Texas -  The Southwestern men's tennis team took on Lewis & Clark and Mary Hardin-Baylor in the past week and narrowly dropped both matches.

Lewis & Clark and Southwestern split singles matches on Thursday. Andy Clarage (#2) defeated Gee-Taylor 6-3, 6-4, Alec Bergerson (#4) took down Tokura 6-2, 6-4 and Alvaro Rojas (#6) defeated Fodor 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Egan Cornachione (#1) fell to Hahm 6-2, 6-3, Sam McCready (#3) dropped his match to Monismith 7-5, 6-4 and Dax Collison (#5) fell 6-3, 6-3 to Pfeiffer.

Lewis & Clark pulled out the win in doubles action, winning two of the three matches. Cornachione/McCready (#1) narrowly fell to Ross/Hahm 8-6 and Bergerson/Azmoudeh (#3) dropped their match 8-5. Collison/Clarage pulled out the win in #2 doubles 9-8.

On Friday, SU got out to a strong start by winning two of three doubles matches. Clarage/Collison (#2) defeated Martin/Turner 8-2 and Azmoudeh/Bergerson (#3) took down Davies/Stamps 8 -4. Cornachione/McCready (#1) were just sets away from making it a doubles sweep, but fell 8-5 to Summers/Ogo.

In singles play, Cornachione (#1) fell 7-5, 6-3 to Summers, but Clarage (#2) outlasted Stamps 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 to keep the Pirates ahead. McCready (#3) fell 6-3, 6-4 to Davies before Bergerson (#4) won his set 6-2, 7-5 over Martin.

UMHB, however, won the final two singles matches to steal the win. Collison (#5) fell to Turner 6-2, 7-5 while Ogo defeated Alvaro Rojas (#6) 6-4, 6-3.

Southwestern fell to 2-5 after the matches and return to the court on April 4th to face Southeastern Oklahoma beginning at 3 p.m.
