Men's Swim Continue Strong Performance in the Second Day of SCAC Championships 

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University men's swim team scored 579, securing them second place in the second day of competition at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships Friday.

Beau Player was the only Pirate today to win first place by finishing the men's 400-yard IM with a time of 4:11.86. Matthew Oevermann followed close behind Player and finished in third place with a time of 4:12.92, Keshaun Patel placed sixth with a time of 4:21.40, Caden Garza placed seventh with a time of 4:21.76 and Brock Bloomquist finished in ninth place with a time of 4:26.53. Also, in the men's 400-yard IM, Nathan Saeger finished in 10th with a time of 4:28.76 and Sean Calvert finished in 11th with a time of 4:32.05.

In the men's 100-yard butterfly, Keith Gill once again performed well for the Pirates and finished second with a time of 51.20. Caleb Taylor Pfeifer placed seventh with a time of 52.89, followed by Tyler Scott, who placed eighth with a time of 53.47. William Taylor finished 14th with a time of 55.63 and Drew Anderson finished 15th with a time of 55.75.

Sebastian Ortiz placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.85, followed by Kevan Kennedy, who placed sixth with a time of 1:44.24 and Dylan Neumann, who placed 10th with a time of 1:47.08.

Five Pirates placed in the top 10 for the men's 100-yard breaststroke, starting off with Alek Argueta placing third with a time of 58.52. Following Argueta, Calvert placed seventh with a time of 59.60, Sam Anderson placed eighth with a time of 59.89, Taylor placed ninth with a time of 1:00.13 and Garza placed 10th with a time of 1:00.92.

In the men's 100-yard backstroke, Carter Duncan finished in fourth place with a time of 53.03, Scott finished in seventh place with a time of 54.00 and Henry McClure placed 10th with a time of 55.75.

Southwestern men's swim competed in two relays. In the men's 200-yard medley relay, Carter, S. Anderson, Gill and McClure took second place with a time of 1:33.88. Men's swim also won second place in the 800-yard freestyle relay with Ortiz, Gill, Kennedy and S. Anderson with a time of 6:55.00.

The last day of the SCAC Championships starts Saturday, Feb 13 at 10 a.m. with the final swimming and diving events and awards.
