Gill and Anderson Finish Strong for Pirates in the First Day of SCAC Championships 
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University Pirates men's swim team finished in second place as they completed their first day in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships at the Bill Walker Natatorium.
 
Southwestern scored 226 points to come in right behind Trinity University, which scored 321 points and earned first place. Colorado College came in third with 174 points, followed by McMurry University at fourth with 87 points, Centenary College at fifth with 85 points, University of the Ozarks at sixth with 71 points and Austin College at seventh with 52 points.
 
For the third consecutive year, Keith Gill finished first in the men's 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 21.08. Henry McClure finished in fourth in 21.41, followed by Drew Anderson with a time of 22.04 and Caleb Taylor Pfeiferfinishing at 14th with a time of 22.56.
 
Sam Anderson also won big for the Pirates by placing second in the men's 200-yard IM with a time of 1:55.50. Carter Duncan followed after Anderson and placed ninth with a time of 1:59.27. Beau Player finished 13th with a time of 2:01.77,  Alek Argueta finished 14th with a time of 2:02.52 and Dylan Neumann finished 15th with a time of 2:03.50.
 
In the men's 500-yard freestyle, five Pirates placed in the top ten, with Sebastian Ortiz placing third with a time of 4:42.15 and Matthew Oevermann at fifth with a time of 4:48.42. Kevan Kennedy came in seventh place with a time of 4:51.62, Keshaun Patel placed eighth with and time of 4:52.15 and Nathan Saeger was ninth with a time of 4:54.35.
 
In both relays, Southwestern cinched second place. With a time of 1:24.5, S. Anderson, Dylan Neumann, D. Anderson and Gill sealed the 200-yard freestyle relay and in the 400-yard medley relay, Tyler Scott, S. Anderson, Neumann and Gill finished with a time of 3:30.81.
 
The SCAC Championships continue on Friday at 4:30 p.m. with five more individual swimming events and two more relays. Men's diving will also open on Friday at 2 p.m., beginning with the men's 1-meter event.
