Swimming Celebrates Senior Day With Victory Over Trinity University

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates swimming and diving teams celebrated seniors Peter Robinson, Cara Chin, and Erika Dubros in their final home meet, defeating Trinity University in a head-to-head meet by a combined score of 296-214.

Seniors Robinson and Chin set the tone for the Pirates, anchoring the men's and women's 200 Yard Medley Relay teams to first-place finishes. Robinson led the men with a time of 21.51as the team finished with a time of 1:37.50 and Chin finished at 26.20 as the women won with a time of 1:52.10.

Robinson also finished first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:46.07, second in the 200 Yard Backstroke (1:58.91), and a contributed to the men's first-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a 21.54 performance as the Pirates swam a 1:28.23.

Carl-Ake Willberg won the 100 Yard backstroke with a time of 53.47 with Connor Moland finishing right behind him with a time of 55.65 for second. Alek Argueta and Sean Calvert finished first and second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with times of 1:00.82 and 1:01.35. The duo also took the top two spots in the 200 Yard Breastsroke with Argueta swimming a 2:15.10 and Calvert a 2:19.69.

The Pirates took the top three spots in the men's 200 Yard Butterfly, led by Dylan Neumann's 1:59.99, followed by Avery Doolittle (2:09.55) and Sal Contreras (2:13.03).

Keith Gil placed second in the men's 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.68 and won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 48.37. Willberg and Todd Coachman finished second and third with times of 49.80 and 49.89.

Matthew Oevermann finished second in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:01.35) and Connor Moland took second in the 100 Yard Butterfly (54.12).

Dylan Neumann (2:02.31) and Vittorio Kirken (2:02.63) took the top two spots in the 200 Yard IM while Oevermann finished second in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle (10:22.79) as the men finished with a score of 158-103.

On the women's side, Natalie Gierat won the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:02.63 and Rehgan Hartsell won the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:10.21) and 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:34.77), followed by Gierat's 2:40.36 to finish second.

Ashley Harmon took the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:14.75) and Jesse Stovall won the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.70). Catherine Hiebel was victorious in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 56.74 and Megan Mick took second in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:18.69). Stovall also won the 100 Yard Butterfly with the only sub-minute time at 59.51.

The Pirates' women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team was bookended by Chin and Dubros, finishing with a time of 1:43.00.

Harmon won the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:15.69 as the women defeated Trinity 138-11.

Southwestern will travel for a road meet at UT-Permian Basin on Jan. 26 at 11 a.m.
