Men's Swimming Opens Season With Victory Over Austin College

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's swimming and diving team opened its season at home with a dominant 203-74 victory over Austin College on Saturday.

Southwestern nearly swept all the top finishes, placing first in every event except the 200 Yard IM, missing the mark by fractions of a second and taking three of the top four spots in the event.

Freshman Keith Gill helped pace the Pirates by playing a hand in 40 points, winning both of his individual events and serving as the anchor leg in the men's winning 200 Yard Medley Relay team, which finished with a time of 1:38.87; and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team, which finished with a 1:28.23 time.

Gill finished the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.61 and had a 47.24 final time in the 100 Yard Freestyle, beating Austin College's second-place finisher Brady Sullivan by roughly two seconds.

"The team has been training consistently well and it reflected into this meet," Head Coach Jon Duncan said. "We still have some work to do but look forward to Nov. 9-10 as we travel to OBU and Centenary."

Matthew Oevermann won the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:35.50 as Southwestern took the top three spots in the event. Todd Coachman (1:49.74) took the 200 Yard Freestyle, Carl-Ake Willberg (54.60) won the 100 Yard Backstroke, Alek Argueta (1:01.22) took the 100 Yard Breaststroke and 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:16.43), Dylan Neumann (2:02.64) took the 200 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Butterfly (53.92), Connor Moland (2:03.16) won the 200 Yard Backstroke, and Nathan Saeger won the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:07.83).
