SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern University swimming team returned to the pool after nearly a two month hiatus, going head-to-head with SCAC-rival Trinity University on Satruday afternoon, their first competition in the 2018 portion of their season.
The Pirates fell in both events, but got some outstanding swims throughout the afternoon.
On the men's side, senior Michael Glover, freshman Alek Argueta, freshman Massimo Gasponi, and freshman Dylan Neumann placed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.69.
Junior Peter Robinson won the 200 free with a time of 1:46.04 while sophomore Todd Coachman finished second at 1:46.57. Neumann picked up a win in the 200 fly at 2:00.75 while senior Martin Martinez was second at 2:03.98. Glover followed with a win in the 50 free at 22.22.
Robinson earned a second place finish in the 200 back at 2:00.27 while Argueta was second in the 200 breast at 2:15.25. Freshmen Mario Foltz and Matthew Oevermann placed 1-2 in the 500 free at 4:58.72 and 5:01.37, respectively, while freshman Caleb Liles won the 100 fly at 54.12. Oevermann wrapped the day up with a second place finish in the 1000 free at 10:21.11
On the women's side, freshman Rehgan Hartsell picked up right where she left off with a win in the 100 breast at 1:09.96 and the 200 breast at 2:35.11. Southwestern swept the 100 breast with sophomore Teresa Cropper placing second (1:17.05), freshman Mattie Wesoloski placing third (1:20.53), and senior Emma Walsh placing fourth (1:22.74). Cropper (2:46.50), Wesoloski (2:56.31), and Walsh (3:01.72) went 2-3-4 in the 200 breast as well.
The team of freshman Kate Russell, Hartsell, junior Cara Chin, and freshman Breely Peterson finished second in the 200 medley relay at 1:54.73. Behind Hartsell's performance,
Peterson took a win in the 200 fly at 2:18.98 while senior Taylor Adams was second at 2:26.39. Chin was victorious in the 50 free at 25.95 while junior Erika Dubros was second at 26.00. Russell placed second in the 500 free at 5:37.51.
The team of Chin, Peterson, Russell, and Dubros earned a second place finish in the 200 free relay at 1:44.06.
For the Pirates, they have one event remaining before they gear up for the SCAC Championships in February. They return home next Saturday for their Senior Day in their final home meet as they welocme in Texas-Pemian Basin for an 11 AM start time.
