Pirate Men Open Season with Dual Meet Win Over Colorado College

GEORGETOWN - The Southwestern University men's swimming team opened the 2017-18 season with a dual meet win over SCAC-rival Colorado College, 130-89, on Friday afternoon at Walzel Natatorium.

The Pirates got a great start from their 400 medley relay teams as they finished 1-2 to start the day. The A squad of junior Peter Robinson, senior Mickey Scharbrough, freshman Dylan Neumann, amd sophomore Todd Coachman won the event with a time of  3:42.40 while the B team of senior Andrew Seymour, freshman Alek Argueta, freshman Caleb Liles, and freshman Andrew Pardini finished second with a time of 3:46.88.

The relay teams were at it again later in the afternoon as this time the all-freshman 200 free relay team of Liles, Caden GarzaSeth Petersen, and Sal Contreras won the event with a time of 1:33.93.

Freshman Matthew Oevermann won the 1000 free with a time of 10:42.85 while Robinson took the other long distance event, winning the 500 free with a time of 5:01.35. Robinson also won the 200 free at 1:47.54

Neumann and Scharbrough finished 1-2 in the 50 free at 22.52 and 23.07, respectively, while Liles placed second in the 100 free at 50.08 followed by freshman Mario Foltz in third at 51.37.

In the 200 breast, Argueta, Scharbrough, and Garza finished 1-2-3 while Argueta winning the event at 2:13.72, Scharbrough checking in at 2:16.19, and Garza rounding out the top three at 2:25.47. Coachman would win the 200 back with a time of 2:07.38.

In the 200 IM, Argueta placed second at 2:05.38 followed by Foltz in third at 2:10.27. Neumann placed second in the 200 fly at 2:07.18 while senior Martin Martinez was third at 2:09.22 

The Pirates will continue their weekend opener as they welcome another SCAC-foe into the Walzel Natatorium in the Centenary Gents. The dual meet is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
