Southwestern men's swimming finishes second, women third at SCAC Championships

LEWISVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern swimming & diving teams wrapped up the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday night at the Westside Aquatic Center.

The men's team finished in second place, only 5.5 points behind Trinity. The women's squad placed third.

The Pirate men racked up 10 victories, including six individual championships, and eight runner-up finishes in the four-day event.

Southwestern captured three more gold medals on Saturday.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Michael Glover, Nathan Townsend, Matt Sluss and Simmon Belaineh set a school record with a time of 3:05.96.

Sluss also won the 200-yard butterfly with a program mark of 1:51.89, which also was a full second faster than the NCAA B Cut.

Mickey Scharbrough captured the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.42, while Belaineh also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Pirate women claimed a pair of runner-up finishes during the event, including one during the final session.

Marissa Byrd was second to the wall in the 200-yard breaststroke, marking a time of 2:33.76.

Taylor Adams finished third in the 200-yard butterfly, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team also placed third.

Madison Doty tallied a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke.
