Pirates extend lead after day two of SCAC Championships

LEWISVILLE, Texas – After 12 events, the Southwestern University men's swimming & diving team is in the lead at the SCAC Championships.

The Pirates have amassed 352 points and lead Trinity (257.5) and Colorado College (213).

Southwestern started the day by continuing its dominance in the relays. The Bucs won the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Michael Glover, Matt Sluss, Nathan Townsend and Simmon Belaineh combined for a time of 1:23.51.

Todd Coachman set a program record in the 500-yard freestyle, as the first-year touched the wall at 4:39.84, which was good for runner-up. Shelby Hall placed third with a time of 4:46.16.

Matt Sluss and Mickey Scharbrough finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Bucs also swept the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Belaineh was first to the wall with a time of 20.89 seconds, while Glover (21.17) was second and Townsend (21.31) finished third.

The third day of competition begins with more preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Finals will start at 6 p.m.
