Men's swimming team sits in fourth place after second day at Trinity Invite

SAN ANTONIO – At the conclusions of the Trinity Invite's second day of competition, the Pirates are maintaining strong performances. Southwestern's men's team is currently placed fourth in the overall rankings behind Henderson State, Wayland Baptist, and Texas-Permian Basin.

Michael Glover led the charge tonight with a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle. His time of 21.09 barely edged out his teammate and senior captain Simmon Belaineh who finished in fifth.

Mickey Scharbrough's third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke was the highest individual placing of the evening. His time of 58.72 was a season best and the fastest time recorded in the SCAC this year.

Matt Sluss and Evan Jones took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100 butterfly with times of 51.27 and 52.11. Sluss' race was a career best.

In the 400 IM, senior captain Shelby Hall powered to a 4:15.92 and a sixth-place finish. Following in seventh-place was Martin Martinez in his fourth swim of the day with a time of 4:20.22.

The Bucs concluded their evening with a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Glover, Scharbrough, and Sluss was anchored by first-year standout Todd Coachman. Their combined efforts resulted in a time of 3:33.41.

The Trinity Invite will conclude Sunday.
