Southwestern opens 2015-16 season on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Highlighted by victories in six events, the Southwestern University men's swimming & diving team opened the 2015-16 season against Texas-Permian on Saturday at Walzel Natatorium. The Division II Falcons earned a 159-131 victory in the contest.

John Rodriguez paced the Pirates with the top score in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Rodriguez, a freshman from New Braunfels, set program records in both events, scoring 222.37 off the 1-meter board and 183.22 in the 3-meter.

Mickey Scharbrough raced to a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.70, while Michael Glover earned a win in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:48.90.

Simmon Belaineh captured the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 22.20.

Belaineh and Glover combined with Shelby Hall and Matt Sluss to claim the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.21.

Southwestern will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Austin College.
