Pirates split senior day meet against Trinity

In their final home meet of the season, Southwestern men defeated Trinity 179.50-119.50 while the women were edged out 176-115.

The Southwestern men posted 11 first place finishes and six second place on their way to the win. The women got four first place and two second place finishes on the afternoon.

Dillon Glass posted an SU record in 1-meter diving with a score of 178.60. Julian Smith and Mickey Scharbrough both captured two first place finishes. Smith in the 100 back (53.72) and 200 back (1:55.62) and Scharbrough in the 100 (1:00.80) and 200 (2:17.00) breast.

The men's 200 medley relay opened the meet with a big first place finish in 1:38.48. Evan Jones snagged first in the 200 fly (1:59.38), as did Alex Villareal in the 200 IM (2:02.13) and Matt Sluss in the 100 fly (53.64). Villareal also finished second in the 100 back (54.56).  Simmon Belaineh and Zach Kline teamed up for a one-two finish in the 50 free with Belaineh posting a time of 21.91 and Kline finished in 22.20.

Simon Gersib finished in second in the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:02.97 and 2:19.96. Michael Glover and Ty Lapinski also had a one-two finish in the 500 free with times of 4:59.58 and 5:00.72. Brandon Baccam won the 3 meter diving with a score of 175.70.

For the women, Kenly Gaynor took first in the 200 fly (2:18.75) and second in the 100 fly (1:03.10). Blythe Nava snagged first in the event with a time of 1:02.33. Madison Doty and Ryann Lawley finished in first and second respectively with times of 1:00.95 and 1:03.43 in the 100 back. Natalie Lesnick finished in first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.55 to round out the women's top finishers.

Southwestern has one more meet before competing in the SCAC Championships. They will face McMurry University on January 23rd in Abilene beginning at 5 pm.
